Mo Abudu, is thanking Nigerians and others for celebrating her on becoming the first African and Nigerian to land multiple Netflix deals, which is to create two original series and multiple branded films.
These films have also been licensed with the American media-services provider and production company, Netflix.
Mo Abudu while thanking Nigerians on her multiple Netflix deals, on Saturday 13th June 2020, also shared a photo of Nigerian playwright and Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, with a caption that gave a short brief on the stories, especially for the non-literature lovers.
The briefs were on the ‘Death and the King’s Horseman’ written by the Professor himself. She also shared a short brief on Lola Shoneyin’s best-selling debut novel, “The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives.”
The “Death and the King’s Horseman,” by Professor Wole Soyinka and “The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives.” by Lola Shoneyin which is a best-selling debut novel, are the films on the Netflix deals that are set for a movie adaptation and series.
Mo Abudu taking to her Instagram accounts, a day after she broke the good news of her Netflix deals, said:

For the literature lovers amongst you, no doubt you know the story of Death and the King’s Horseman.😁😁
For those that do not, below is a very short brief ~ based on a real incident that took place in Nigeria during British colonial rule, Elesin, the “horseman” of a Yoruba King was prevented from committing ritual suicide by the colonial authorities. Elesin, the recently deceased king’s horseman, is meant to kill himself in order to follow his monarch into the afterlife. The rest you will all find out in due course if you don’t already know 😂😂😂
Now below is also a brief of the main Nigerian characters. Who in your opinion would you like to see play these roles from the super talented array of Nigerian actors that you have grown to love. Those that in your opinion will give oscar winning performances. 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽
They are:
Elesin is the titular horseman of the play and will be in our feature film too. He’s a vibrant man who loves life and, due his role as the king’s horseman has been able to enjoy it to the fullest.
The “mother of the market.” She has a close and friendly relationship with Elesin and, along with the praise-singer, acts as Elesin’s moral compass and a conscience of sorts.
Olunde is Elesin’s oldest son and therefore, is next in line to become the king’s horseman.
The praise-singer is a man who accompanies Elesin and acts as his conscience and spiritual guide.
Amusa is a native Yoruba man and he serves as a police officer for the English colonizers.
A beautiful young woman engaged to Iyaloja’s son. Elesin catches sight of her and decides he wants to marry her before he dies.
