Governor Ganduje of Kano State has described as shocking and sad the news of the death of Professor Haruna Wakili

Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, while mourning the death of the late Historian, from Bayero University, Kano, Prof. Haruna Wakili, who before his death, was the Director of Centre for Democratic Research and Training, Mambayya House and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, of the university, said it was shocking and a difficult one to bear. He said:

“This shocking death and one of the most difficult to bear, of Professor Haruna Wakili, is not only shocking but devastating to academia, that is being manifested in true pursuance of knowledge, which characterized the whole life of the deceased.”

Governor Ganduje in his statement on Sunday 21st June 2020, laments that, with the demise of Prof Haruna Wakili, History, as a discipline, suffers a setback, particularly talking about decent, disciplined, coherent and promising scholar, at the level of Prof. Wakili, in the country.

“It is therefore with a deep sense of sorrow and unbearable feeling of the existence of a gap, that I, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the governor of Kano state, on behalf of the government and the good people of Kano state.

I am extending our condolence to the immediate family of our unrelenting and not-lazy Prof. Haruna Wakili over his death.

“I am equally extending the same condolence to Vice-Chancellor, university community and students, over this hard-to-forget loss of one of our celebrating Historians in the country.

Whose commitment to knowledge and morality earned him to be appointed as Commissioner for Education, in Jigawa state, under Alhaji Sule Lamido regime,” he appreciated.

He also extends similar condolence to the government of Jigawa state and the Hadejia Emirate over this demise of an illustrious son, scholar, administrator, researcher, and an embodiment of discipline and patriotism.

Governor Ganduje enjoined his family and students to copy the exemplary life of the deceased Professor Wakili, reminding that, the late Professor was an icon whose exemplary life was a flagship for many, within and outside the academic circle.

“May Almighty Allah forgive all his wrongdoings and accept all his good deeds. May Allah takes good care of what he left behind,” he said.
