Buhari's Wife Aisha Deactivates Twitter Account After Ban

The First Lady of Nigeria, Mrs Aisha Buhari on Friday called on Inspector-General of the Nigerian Police, Mohammed Adamu to release her detained staff who are still in police custody. This move according to her, was to avoid putting their lives in danger or exposure to the coronavirus while in custody.

Mrs Aisha Buhari who had said this in a series of tweets, where she was expressing her fears about the increased cases of the COVID-19 in the country, also called on relevant Government Agencies to enforce the Quarantine Act signed by her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari. This she said was “to ensure that no one is found violating this law and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) guidelines”.

Taking to her official social media handle on Friday 12th June 2020, the First posting series of tweets, which apart from calling the IG to release her detained staff, warned Nigerians that the virus is real. She also called on state governors to monitor and enforce the ban on interstate travels, saying:

That Covid-19 is real and still very much around in our nation is not in doubt. Consequently, I call on all relevant Government Agencies to enforce the Quarantine Act signed by Mr President and ensure no one is found violating this law and the NCDC guidelines especially on interstate travel without the necessary exemptions for movement of essentials,” she said.

Mrs Aisha Buhari continued by adding that: 

Anyone who does that should at the very least be made to undergo 14 days mandatory isolation no matter who the person is, no one should be above the law and the Police command will do well to remember that.,” she added.

The tweet on the release of her detained staff that she has been receiving condemnation for reads:

Finally, I call on the IGP to release my assigned Staff who are still in the custody of the Police in order to avoid putting their lives in danger or exposure to Covid-19 while in their custody,” she said.
