Kebbi State just yesterday witnessed some wonders of wildlife, as three elephants mysteriously turned up in a remote village in the State.
According to Kebbi State Government who broke the news last night on their social media page, the three elephants showed up in Koko Besse Local Government Area of Kebbi State, as villages rushed to catch a glimpse of the Elephants who were going about searching for food to eat.
It was a wonderful site to behold, as villages and Government officials marveled as they watch in amazement seeing the Elephants turned up in the community unannounced.
Africa is said to be home to a wide variety of wildlife, which Elephant is one of them. But it is very rare to find Elephant in the West Africa region, which is mostly dominated by such animals as Monkeys, Zebra, Hippopotamus, crocodile and the likes.
While there are much of wildlife in the East and Southern Africa, the Central and Western Africa regions due to population and constant hunting of these animals, and constant civil unrest in these regions, most of them have moved down South. So, it was a huge surprise to see an Elephant show up from nowhere in Kebbi State, when the only place you can probably see such is in Bauchi State (mostly imported wildlife).
Though the Kebbi State Government suspects the Elephants might have embarked on their annual migration and suspect they could have migrated from neighbouring countries of Niger and or Benin (the two countries Kebbi State shares borders with), they said it was not unusual to see such migration, and thanked the villagers for alerting authorities and for not harming the Elephants who seem to have taken over their river bank.
In a statement released on their social media last night, the Kebbi State Government had this to say on the Elephants:
“Today, three elephants turned up in Koko Besse Local Government Area of Kebbi State. His Excellency Sen Atiku Bagudu arranged the immediate protection of these increasingly rare animals and processes to hand them over to appropriate authorities unharmed.”
“Elephants migrate annually straddling the Kainji, Rep of Benin & Niger forests. The Kebbi Community where 3 seen today were mobilized successfully by authorities to fend off threats from hunters etc.”
