Third Mainland Bridge Closure: Sanwo-Olu Calls For Patience

The Governor of Lagos State, Governor Sanwo-Olu has praised Lagosians on the high-level of compliance witnessed today, as the restriction order by President Muhammadu Buhari on the State kicks off.

The Governor who has constantly given update on the situation of the coronavirus pandemic in the State, on Tuesday 31st March 2020, took to his official social media handle to give yet another update. He said:

“Today, we experienced the first day of the 14-day Presidential movement restriction order, to mitigate against the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic in our country.

The high level of compliance to this directive goes to show that we have realised the enormity of this challenge and are determined to terminate the scourge, with the hope of returning to our day-to-day activities, currently disrupted by this unseen enemy,” he said.

Stating further after praising Lagosians for their compliance on the restriction order, warned that:

“Let us be reminded that this restriction was announced to contain the community spread of the virus and in this regard, I would like to warn residents with the intention to breech the order, to note that the violation of this directive is against the public health interest of all Lagosians.

On the medical front, I have been informed that all our COVID-19 patients are clinically stable and our health workers (exceptional men & women) are doing their best to ensure that the patients regain their health and return to their families, just like the 5 patients who were discharged yesterday,” he said.

On the relief package, he added that:

“Our relief welfare package remains on course and 200,000 less privileged/vulnerable households are expected to be beneficiaries in the first phase. Some of the local governments currently benefitting from this initiative include; Amuwo-Odofin, Epe, Ikeja, Badagry, Ibeju-Lekki, Agege, Oshodi-Isolo, Apapa and Lagos Mainland. We will ensure other local governments are covered ASAP.

I wish to use this opportunity to appreciate worthy Lagosians, who have demonstrated the true spirit of “A Greater Lagos” by providing enormous support and assistance in this trying period. I also salute our law enforcement agents, who are working tirelessly to ensure compliance with this directive; I enjoin them to be firm but courteous whilst discharging their duties.

Finally, I wish to reiterate that if we continue to fight in unity, I am confident that COVID-19 would be defeated and we would emerge victorious as always,” he added.
