Gov Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state has stressed the importance of increasing military intelligence to combating new waves of crime in the country.

Gov Udom Emmanuel gave the advice while hosting the incoming Commander of the 2 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Uyo, Brigadier General Mohammed Nura Inuwa, in a courtesy visit, Friday at Government House, Uyo.

He said “what can save the security or challenges is the need to rely on intelligence so that we can nip it in the bud. It has to be at least 70% intelligence.

“Environment induced diagnostic intelligence will also help. I’m sure we will conquer them,” Governor Emmanuel affirmed.

The Governor who lauded the strides made by the Nigerian Army in battling insecurity across the nation in general and Akwa Ibom in particular, called for more efforts, especially in areas of intelligence.

He pledged the commitment of his administration to collaborate and support the army in its efforts to continue to keep the State safe
Governor Emmanuel expressed the delight of the people of the state to receive the new Army Commander, expressing satisfaction with his credentials and his understanding of the current conflict spectrum, as well as the state’s peculiar land and maritime security terrain.

“On behalf of the Government and the good people of the State, I want to say that we are happy to have you and I’m happy you have such a wide knowledge and understanding and also an understanding of our peculiar security terrain because we run the longest coastline in the whole country, 129km.

“Be rest assured that when it comes to cooperation with different service commands, we are in the frontline; count on us anytime, any day.

“Anytime you cannot reach us, we trust that you can make the best decision and I can also assure you that we will back you up 100%.”
Gov Udom Emmanuel, while commending the efforts of General Inuwa’s predecessor in the Brigade Command, expressed confidence that with the new Brigade Commander’s exposure, knowledge and understanding of the current conflict spectrum, the state would conquer possible threats.

Brig. Gen Mohammed Nura Inuwa, Commander 2 Brigade said his visit to the Government House was to officially present himself as the new Commander, 2 Brigade, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and to register his commitment to deliver upon the primary objectives of ensuring peace, law and order in the state.

He said having been properly briefed by his predecessor; he has taken note of what he needs to do in collaboration of other security agencies to ensure the State remains peaceful, safe and secure.

“We have met with some of the security services commanders and also, we are making efforts to collaborate because we are brought here to do a primary objective which is to ensure and enhance the security in Akwa Ibom State and to make sure there is peace, law and order in the state.

“Also there is a need for us to collaborate and synergize to bring out an effective strategy that will work out for the state to achieve its aims”, he stated.
