COVID-19: Lagos Health Commissioner Akin Abayomi Tests Positive

The Lagos State Government has released a statement through the state Ministry of Health, calling on all attendees at the last African Magic Viewers Choice Award (AMVCA) held on the 14th March 2020, at the Eko Hotel & Suites to observe strict self-isolation.

This is so, because, participants might have come in contact with one of the confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Lagos, the commissioner of health confirms.

According to the statement which was released on the official twitter handle of the commissioner of health in the state, Professor Akin Abayomi, raised the alarm where he twitted saying:

I hereby notify you that all participants at the African Magic Viewers’ Choice Award (AMVCA) held on14th March at @EkoHotels may have come in contact with one of the confirmed cases in Lagos and are most likely to have been exposed to #COVID19 Infection”.

He continued by saying:

Attendees at the said event are therefore advised to:
observe strict self- isolation. call our #TollFree line 08000corona if they notice any of the #COVID19 related symptoms.
Let’s #TakeResponsibility by practising #SocialDistancing to prevent the spread of the virus” he said.

This latest information comes after Lagos state government confirmed an additional four new cases of the COVID-19 between yesterday evening, 23rd March and today 24th March 2020.

The total confirmed cases in Lagos as at 1.10 pm today 24th March 2020 is 29. But the general figure in Nigeria as at last night was put at 40, with two discharged cases, and one death recorded.

The AMVCA is not just a Nigerian award, but an African award that attracts actors, industry players, government officials and movie producers across the continent, where they celebrate and crown their efforts in keeping Africans and the world entertained.

If the said confirmed case had attended the event as claimed by the Lagos State Government, then it will mean that a lot of celebrities may be living with the virus and showing symptoms and not even know that they have contracted the virus. But again, no actor or actress or any of those who had attended the event some weeks ago have publicly reported anything serious about their health…we wait to see how they react to this latest information from the government.
