The embattled Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District Senator Dino Melaye has yet again scored another high point against his opponents, as the Independent Electoral Commission recorded just 5% of recall voters signature verification out of the total number of registered voters in the state from the conducted signature verification exercise yesterday in the Senatorial District.
This results in whichever way you want to look at it could be a sign of things to come in Kogi state in the 2019 general elections. It shows once more that the people do truly have a say in that they tried their best to recall a Senator they allegedly feel was not representing them well enough. Though the process of the exercise might have been influenced or marred by violence in some areas as recorded by INEC, the good thing is, the people kicked started an exercise and saw it through, without any fear of intimidation.
This is clearly a good sign for democracy in Nigeria, and also a wake-up call to representatives in the National Assembly, as to always do the right things that they were voted for, as some might not be as lucky as Senator Dino if they eventually find themselves in his shoes.
In reacting to the outcome of the results as announced by INEC, Senator Dino Melaye who is still on a hospital bed in Abuja National Hospital, took to his social media page to share his appreciation to the people of his constituency for their vote of confidence.
The Senator blamed his political opponent for a desperate move to take him out of office, describing them as political detractors and force of evil. He said they will never triumph over forces of light, as they have failed once more. He said:
Thank you my people. God bless you all. Thank you for the confidence reposed on me. I will not let you down. I will always stand by the truth and the people at all times. God bless Kogi west.
Every lie has an expiry date. Forces of evil will never triumph over forces of light. God is with us
