Buhari Denies Cancelling Memos Signed By Late Abba Kyari

The Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari tested positive for Coronavirus, after taking the test to confirm his status.

Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari tested positive after he was said to have possibly contracted the virus during a visit to Germany and Egypt for a meeting on the Nigerian Electricity Regulation Commission, whose executive chairman, Prof. James Momoh, was part of. He attended many meetings after his return from these trips last week.

Kyari was said to have started coughing during a meeting on Sunday at the Aso Rock Villa, fuelling speculation he could have the virus.

His test result, which came in on Tuesday morning, confirmed him positive.

President Muhammadu Buhari, who had to take the test, however, is negative.

Abba Kyari testing positive could increase the total figure of infected persons in Nigeria which already stand at 40 as of last night, even though the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is yet to give a new update after they had confirmed four new cases last night.

NCDC who had earlier put the total figure at 36, with one death and two discharged cases, took to its official handle on Monday night to say the four new cases confirmed, are three in Lagos State and 1 in FCT.

The NCDC stated that two of these four cases were returning travellers, but did not state from what country, and what airline brought them into the country.

NCDC had raised alarm over the influx of people from countries with high cases of coronavirus saying “they are the biggest source of transmission.”

“Our biggest source of risk in travellers returning from high-risk countries are expected to self isolate for 14 days. Our appeal to Nigerians is to take responsibility and prevent further transmission of the virus.
Collective action is critical to control spread,” NCDC said on Twitter
