Arsenal on Wednesday 29th January 2020 released a statement confirming the official signing of 26-year-old Spanish defender, Pablo Mari from Flamengo.
Pablo Mari who was signed on loan will be the first signing for Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta since taking over at the English Premier League club.
The defender is joining Arsenal on loan until the end of the season, with Arsenal having the option to make the deal permanent in the summer.
Pablo Mari who Arteta will be looking to play alongside David Luiz, while speaking on his arrival to the English club with the Arsenal website, had this to say:
‘I’m happy to be here today and to have signed for a big club. I’m going to do my best to help my team-mates and the club.
‘When I spoke to my agent, it was a big thing that Arsenal were interested in me. This is one of the best clubs in the world, so I’m absolutely delighted to be joining
‘I’m really looking forward to playing in this jersey and helping my team.’ Arsenal technical director Edu added: ‘Pablo is an experienced player who will provide us with additional defensive quality.
‘We have been monitoring Pablo’s career for a while and we are very pleased to have reached an agreement with Flamengo for him to join us initially until the end of our season.
‘Together with Mikel and his coaching team, we are all looking forward to seeing Pablo in an Arsenal shirt.’
Arsenal who are currently 10th on the Premier league table with 30 points from 22 games, risk dropping to 14th depending on the results of other teams bellow them, should they record yet another defeat away against Burnley on Sunday.
The Emirate club managed to salvage a draw against their London rival Chelsea in their last game, and a defeat or a draw on Sunday will not be good for the club, given that they are tied on same points with the likes of Burnley, Crystal Palace, Everton and Newcastle with a -2 goal difference.
A very big test for the new signing, and with the Europa Cup on the corner, Arsenal will be looking to rediscover their form and get to winning ways on Sunday, to avoid an early exit from Europe.
