Manchester City assistant manager, and former Gunner, Mikel Arteta after weeks of speculations of being linked to the Arsenal job, is now rumoured to have agreed to a three-year deal with the Arsenal board to become their next manager.

Mikel Arteta who is still under contract with Manchester City, was reported to have agreed contract terms with the Gunners, but will still be on the bench on Wednesday night with Pep Guardiola when City takes on Oxford United at the Carabao Cup second rounds of quarter final games.

According to the report by Mirror, Arteta could be in charge of Arsenal for the Everton game at the weekend, after the 37-year-old finalised a three-and-a-half-year deal at the Emirates after extensive negotiations in the past 48 hours. The Spaniard’s appointment could also be confirmed after City’s Oxford game, the report added.

The UK tabloid also reported that Arsenal director Josh Kroenke, son of owner Stan Kroenke who is said to be the brain behind the Mikel Arteta negotiation, has returned to the United States after concluding the deal.

Arteta will be allowed to bring in his choice of assistant and it is believed he is keen on another of Guardiola’s backroom staff, Spanish coach Rodolfo Borrell, the report added.

Arsenal are yet to confirm any of the news spreading around, as it is believed the board will make an announcement before the game at Everton. Also, former Napoli manager, Carlo Ancelotti is still very much available for the Arsenal job, even though he has been heavily linked to Everton, footballing business is unpredictable, so try not to rule anything out at this time…we are waiting for both teams…#arteta #ancelotti
