The immediate past Governor of Imo State, now elected Senator, Senator Owele Rochas Okorocha has denied media reports that he granted an interview confirming the death of one of his colleague in the Senate, Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu.
Senator Rochas Okorocha denying the false media reports called out The NationNews for using his name to spread falsehood on the alleged death of Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, saying:
“This is very absurd as I did not speak to anyone to confirm this news. This kind of journalism is totally unacceptable. We must strive to do better.
I am utterly shocked that a platform like @TheNationNews”, he said on his official Twitter handle on Wednesday 18th 2019.
Before the reaction from Senator Rochas Okorocha who is representing Imo West at the green Chamber, the rumour about the death of Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu were reported all over the social media, with Rochas quoted as their source.
According to the report, Senator Uwajumogu who represents Imo North Senatorial District slumped and died while having his bath at his home. He was rushed to a private hospital in Apo, Abuja, where he died, the report had said.
The report added that the death of the Senator was confirmed to journalists by the Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District, Rochas Okorocha.
Senator Rochas Okorocha who is not happy with the news, and especially how his name has been used in the said publication, wants the publication taken down by The NationNews. He said this on his Twitter handle:
“I would go to the extent of putting my name behind such falsehood in the bid to break news. Let me reiterate that I didn’t speak to journalists regarding the news making rounds about the passing of Senator Ben Uwajumogu.
I demand that TheNationNews take down this news piece as it is false and completely misleading. One would expect better from such a platform,” he said.
