Man City To Banish Any Fan Found Guilty An Alleged Racist Abuse

Man City has reacted swiftly to the allegations that some of their fans racially abused some Manchester United players during the Manchester Derby game on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium. The club in reacting to the allegation, released a statement pledging to banish “anyone found guilty of racist abuse.”

Man City who are been applauded for releasing a quick statement condemning the racist abuse of some of their fans, said they were “aware of a video circulating on social media” where some City supporters were making monkey gestures towards United players and promised to take a decisive actions.

According to reports, the incident happened when Fred went to take a corner in the second half of the Manchester derby game. He was later reported to have granted an interview to ESPN Brazil after the game where he narrated his experience, saying:

“We are still in a backward society,”

“Unfortunately, this is happening in some stadiums. It happened here, it happened in Ukraine with some friends.

“It’s sad, but we have to keep our heads up and forget about that. We can’t give them any attention because that’s all they want. I spoke to the referee after the match, they will do something about it and that’s all”, he said.

The Brazilian also appeared to be hit by an object thrown at Etihad Stadium.

Fred, Lingard and possibly Rashford were targets during the game, as the issue of racism is beginning to take the centre stage once more in Europe. It comes just days after Lukaku and Smalling were racially abused by an Italian Sports magazine as both UEFA and FIFA are still struggling to find a better punishment on the issue.

Even Man City player, Sterling has been a victim of a racist abuse during the game against Chelsea, and also his constant racial profiling by some British Press.

Man City in their statement, said they are working with Greater Manchester Police to help them identify any individuals who were involved. Greater Manchester Police said that no arrests had been made but that “enquiries into the incident are ongoing”.

“The club operates a zero-tolerance policy regarding discrimination of any kind,” City added.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “I’ve seen it on the video and the fella must be ashamed of himself. It is unacceptable and I hope he won’t be watching any football any more.”

City manager Pep Guardiola said he does not want to see any more alleged racist abuse “happen again”.

“It is a battle to fight every day. Unfortunately, it has happened in many places,” he said.

The Manchester City full statement condemning the act reads:

“Manchester City FC are aware of a video circulating on social media which appears to show a supporter making racial gestures during the second half of the match against Manchester United this evening.

Officials from the Club are working with Greater Manchester Police in order to help them identify any individuals concerned and assist with their enquiries.

The Club are also working with GMP regarding an instance of objects being thrown onto the field of play.

The Club operates a zero tolerance policy regarding discrimination of any kind, and anyone found guilty of racial abuse will be banned from the club for life” the club had said after the game on Saturday.
