President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated British boxer, Anthony Joshua on his comeback victory against the Mexican, Andy Ruiz Jr to become a Two-time world heavyweight boxing champion of the world.

The Nigerian President, in a statement released on Sunday 8th December 2019 by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, gave Anthony Joshua a thumbs up on reclaiming his World heavyweight belts from Andy Ruiz.

Mr Femi Adesina in his statement, said:

“The President rejoices with Joshua, saluting him for bringing joy to millions of Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora, who had rooted for him to regain the titles he lost about six months ago”, he said.

The statement continued with some motivational quote, saying:

“The downfall of a man is truly not the end of his life. There’s always another, and better day. This is a lesson we must all learn from you as a country,”

President Buhari also wishes Anthony Joshua well as he seeks to bring more glory to Nigeria, and to the boxing profession”, Mr Femi Adesina ended his statement.

The statement from the Presidency is coming a few hours after Anthony Joshua defeated Andy Ruiz in a unanimous decision after 12 rounds of boxing in Dubai, to reclaim his belts he lost to the Mexican a few months ago via K’O.

While some criticised the British boxer for his approach in the fight, as they wanted him to return the K’O favour to Ruiz, that they even compared his approach to that of Mayweather, others praised him for his tactical approach and eventual victory. But the question now is, what next for the British boxer, a unification fight with American Wilder, or some British delight with Tyson Fury…or retirement?
