Chelsea confirm the permanent move of Kenneth Omeruo to Leganes

English Premier League side, Chelsea has a few hours ago, confirmed the permanent transfer of Nigerian International, Kenneth Omeruo to La Liga side, Leganes.

The move that was also confirmed on Tuesday night by Kenneth Omeruo himself, comes after 7-years with the London club, and without playing a single game for them.

Kenneth Omeruo before his departure was the longest-serving Chelsea player, and one out of many who have been out on loan since 2012, but never had the chance to play for the team.

His transfer is coming at a time when Chelsea who struggled in their opening game of the 2019-2020 League against Manchester United are in need of a central defender, after the departure of David Luiz to Arsenal. But given the statement put out by the club wishing the Nigerian best of luck, they clearly are not interested in having him back. The statement reads:

“Kenneth Omeruo has completed a permanent transfer to La Liga side Leganes

The defender returns to the club where he spent a successful season on loan in 2018/19, making 31 appearances.

Omeruo signed for Chelsea in 2012 from Standard Liege and subsequently spent time on loan in the Netherlands, Turkey, Spain( Leganes) and with Championship side Middlesbrough.

We would like to thank Kenneth for his service and wish him all the best for the future” the statement reads.

The Nigerian international has played over 50 times for his country, including at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups. He recently helped the Super Eagles to the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations, a tournament he won alongside John Mikel Obi and Victor Moses in 2013

Kenneth Omorue taking to his Instagram page on Tuesday had put out this message to Chelsea owners and fans for the wonderful time together. He said:

“I have nothing but Love for this club … @chelseafc made my dreams as a child to become a reality.. thank you for an Amazing 7 years.. Thanks to all Chelsea fans for the love.. thank you Eddie Newton you are an amazing coach and manager.. I will never forget this club… But it’s time to move on and realize my full potential.. THANK YOU @chelseafc ❤️” he said.
