The Kano Media Advocacy Group, which is a cluster of concerned journalists in Kano State dedicated to advocacy for accountability and good governance in service delivery, promoting social change as well as recognizing best practices in governance, has hailed the state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for approving a contract for the establishment of a N2.4 billion cancer treatment centre at Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital in the state.
The group made the commendation in a statement signed on its behalf by Bilkisu Ado Zango and issued to The Triumph in Kano.
The statement quoted the group as noting that the Ganduje administration was planning to integrate private sector participation as well as free medical services for the vulnerable in the state contributory healthcare scheme.
It said the importance of the Cancer Treatment centre could not be overemphasized as it will go a long way in alleviating the sufferings of many citizens of the state and the nation by extension living with various types of cancers.
The group noted that currently, there are very limited facilities offering treatment for cancer in the country at very exorbitant cost, calling on the Ganduje administration to also consider reviewing the state contributory healthcare scheme law for more effectiveness.
The group similarly used the opportunity to remind Governor Ganduje of the promises he made during his inaugural speech on the occasion of his swearing-in ceremony for second term especially in areas of education, water supply, agriculture, war against drugs and security, in addition to the health issues above.
On education, the group noted that the governor promised free and compulsory primary and secondary as well as subsidized tertiary education for all the citizens of the state, adding that he also pledged free education for people living with disabilities from primary to tertiary levels, calling on the administration to come up with implementation policy guidelines for the actualization of these initiatives, including ensuring the implementation of the state education trust fund (KETFund).
