The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is set to reward one of its personnel, Aircraftman (ACM) Bashir Umar, who found and returned the sum of 37,000 Euros to Alhaji Ahmad, the owner of the lost money.

According to the statement released on Sunday 21st July 2019, by Director of Public Relations and Information of NAF, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, said the incident occured at the Hajj Camp Market in Kano on Tuesday 16 July 2019, when ACM Bashir Umar, who is a member of the NAF Mobile Air Defence Team (MADT) deployed for airport security duties, while on routine patrol with some of his colleagues, found the money in a parcel. Fortunately, there was a phone number on the parcel which the Airman, Bashir Umar called, and eventually handed over the package to the owner.

Air Commodore Daramola stating further, said:

“Consequently, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has directed the Chief of Administration at the Headquarters NAF, Air Vice Marshal Kingsley Lar, to immediately come up with modalities to reward the airman so as to encourage other personnel of the Service to continue to embody attitudes and behaviours that reflect NAF’s core values of Integrity, Excellence and Service Delivery” he said.

This clearly is a great news at such a time as this, as that amount at today’s rate amount to almost N15million naira. I mean he could have just taken the money to himself and pretend as if he saw nothing, but for his person and profession, he chose to return the money to the rightful owner and we congratulate Bashir Umar for exhibiting such a great character worth emulating by all.

Also we thank the Air Force for the move to reward him and others who agreed to return the money without having a second thought on whether or not to return the money.
