PDP calls Kano State governorship re-run a sham

After collation of results from all 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State, results announced for the Kano Governorship election shows that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the majority of the votes as against that of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement of Kano State Governorship results which was allegedly disrupted by the Deputy Governor of the State in the early hours of Monday morning, alongside the Commissioner of Local Government Affairs, and the process later suspended by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) due to that incident, resumed a few hours ago.

At the resumption and after collation of results from 10 wards of the local government, PDP scored 54,349 votes while the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), scored 34,297 votes.

This brings the aggregate votes scored by the two leading candidates of the Kano Governorship election to:
PDP: 1,014,353 votes…PDP had earlier polled 960,004 votes from 43 local governments.

APC: 987,819 votes…had polled 953,522 votes from 43 local government.
Now, looking at these figures, ordinarily PDP should be declared the winner of the Kano State election, but the electoral laws have to be followed and that would mean that number of cancelled votes will have to be looked at, and the margin between the winner (PDP) and that of APC.

According to report only results from 10 out of the 11 local governments were collated before the process was disrupted. As a result, it is the result of the 10 local governments already collated that were regenerated at the state collation office. The results from Gama ward was, therefore, not included.

Also, the state collation officer, Bello Shehu, a professor, said that after final collation, he will look at the number of cancelled votes and the margin of difference between the two leading candidates. This will determine if the PDP candidate will be declared the winner or if the election will be declared inconclusive.
