American rapper and public speaker, Chancelor Jonathan Bennett, who is better known as Chance the Rapper, a few hours ago put up a post saying he knew he was going to get married to his wife at just nine years old, which was the first time he met her.
Chance the rapper took to his Twitter handle to share a lovely story on how he first met his wife and the woman who will later become the mother of his child. He put up a childhood photo of his wife Kirsten Corley which was taken in 2003, explaining that the photo was taken the first day they met.
He said it was in one of those office parties organised at his mother’s workplace, where Kirsten Corley and her friends were called out to perform and were called Destiny Child. Her dance moves immediately caught his eyes, and that was how he started having an interest in her at age 9!. He said:
“This is where my memory comes back in a photographic manner. We were instructed to make way for an exclusive performance by DESTINY’S CHILD!” Chance recalled.
Of course, Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams were nowhere to be found. Instead, it was a group of young girls who would deliver a lip-sync performance of “Independent Women.”
“‘QUESTION. TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT ME.’ Now I’m locking eyes with the prettiest girl I ever have seen on my almost-a-decade of life on Earth,” Chance wrote. “I shouldn’t even say locked eyes ’cause really, I was just staring at her; as she and her girls were conquering this choreography.”
In the midst of the performance, Chance’s dad nudged him on the shoulder and encouraged him to go out there and perform. The rapper said that at this time he had already won multiple talent shows and had established a reputation as a young entertainer. Despite his father’s encouragement, Chance chose to sit this one out. And, no, it wasn’t because he was too nervous or afraid he’d steal the girls’ shine.
“It’s ’cause I knew I was gonna marry that girl. And I ain’t wanna jump the gun,” he said. “So I shook my head with anxiety, moved to the back of the crowd and never even introduced myself. 16 years later it’s happening. This [weekend] is the time, and the place is my wedding. I’m gonna dance with my wife because this is my destiny.”
Chance the rapper and his girlfriend Kirsten Corley later got engaged in front of friends and family last summer, about three years after they had welcomed their first child, Kensli.
