Super Eagles of Nigeria inform striker, Odion Ighalo has been ruled out for 4-weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury.
According to a report released on his social media page a few hours ago, the Chinese Super League striker who plays for Changchun Yatai said he will be out for 4-5 weeks and will be missing the all-important AFCON qualifiers against Bafana Bafana of South Africa on November 17th, 2018.
Speaking on the injury, Odion Ighalo said:
“I pulled my hamstring..“I am going to out for four to five weeks due to the hamstring injury. I sustained it in our home game yesterday.
“Things like this happen in football and I have accepted it.
“So, sad that I won’t play against South Africa in our Nation’s Cup qualifier next weekend, and I was already looking forward to the match but God knows best.”
“But I believe in the team to beat South Africa in their backyard,” he said.
“I’ll be supporting them all the way.”
This surely is not a good news for Super Eagles coach, as Odion Ighalo has been the main striker for the Super Eagles, scoring some crucial goals to see that the Super Eagles top their group ahead of South Africa.
Although there are players who can be called upon to take his place, his experience and given that he is in form both for country and club, his services will surely be missed when the Super Eagles of Nigeria takes on the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in Johannesburg.
Both Nigeria and South Africa will be looking to take all three points, and as a draw will do for Nigeria, South Africa will need all three points to put themselves in a very good position to qualify.
Also, given that the South Africans opened their qualifier campaign with a win over Nigeria, they will have it at the back of their mind that the team that will be coming to South Africa will be a different team, who will be looking to restore the Nigerian pride…
