Senator Saraki has a few minutes ago, declared his intention to run for the office of the President of Nigeria.

The Nigerian Senate President made his announcement in Abuja a few minutes ago, in front of some journalist, his colleagues at National Assembly, and some political watchers/media

Senator Saraki who has in the last few weeks, toured some states in Nigeria to consult with past Nigerian leaders such as former Military President General Ibrahim Babaginda, former Military and Civilian President, Cheif Olusegun Obasanjo, and only yesterday, he met with the immediate past President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan at his Abuja resident where they held a closed-door meeting, finally revealed his intention.

Senator Saraki, just has predicted by some political watchers, that he was eying the seat of the Presidency, a few minutes ago, threw his hat to the ring that is already crowded, especially from his own political party of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Senator from Kwara State who had earlier decamped from the All Progressives Congress (APC), earlier today on his social media page had said that he was going to meet up with some Nigerian youth, using the #NotTooYoungTorun, saying:

“Arrived at Sheraton Hotel, Abuja a few minutes ago. Here I’ll be meeting with young politicians and aspirants who are interested in running for public office in 2019 under the newly signed #NotTooYoungToRun Act.”
Some hours later, he declared saying:

“I have decided to answer the call of teeming youth who have asked me to run for President. Accordingly, I hereby announce my intention to run for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Senator Seraki will now join the heavyweights like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Ahmed Makarfi, Sule Lamido, then maybe Jonah Jang, to fight for the PDP Presidential ticket for the 2019 elections.

These names clearly have a huge and strong support base in their respective states and region, but do they have the general support of Nigerians in all the states?
One thing is to win an election and be popular in your region and state, another is to be acceptable and be marketable  (politically) to those outside of your political zone.

Also, how would the people of Southern Nigeria (especially the South East and South-South) see all these declaration by these Northern candidates. Will they fast forward their political ambition and go for President Buhari (keeping close to their chest the calculation of Tinubu and South-West) or go for a new Northerner?

Whether or not it is the right decision for Senator Saraki to declare for Presidency, the people of Nigeria will decide that…when and after his party decides. But I am loving the drama going on.
