Angela Merkel has arrived in the West African country of Senegal where she was received by President Macky Sall.
The German Chancellor Angela Merkel who is on a tour of some selected African countries, mostly in West Africa region, is coming at a time when her counterpart in Britain, Theresa May is also visiting.
The Senegalese President, Macky Sall and Angela Merkel will hold talks on issues of common interest bilaterally, regionally and internationally.
As part of the visit of Chancellor Angela Merkel, she will be discussing ways of curbing migration and all the misinformation about going to Europe.
The two heads of state exchanged official decorations before going to a press conference, where they declared to establish a “good partnership” between both countries.
German Chancellor, Angela Markel on her brief press conference after she was welcomed by Senegal’s President Macky Sall in Dakar, said:
” Senegal is an open country that is committed to multilateralism and takes responsibility. The fact that young people are making their way from Africa to Europe unfortunately also has to do with misconceptions. It was all the more important that people received the right information from the state.” she said.
While the German Chancellor Angela Merkel based her visit on the issue of migration and how her country can help in providing economic assistance to these countries where their citizens engage in the deadly journey of migrating to Europe via the sea through Libya, Theresa May calls her own visit as more of a post Brexit plan, as they search for markets.
Though nothing has been established, even with Britain pledging to invest in the next four years, the huge sum of £4 billion in the continent, it seems like the there is a hidden agenda from European countries and the world, to scramble for Africa all over again, as the economic wars, especially from United States President, Donald Trump and Europe, Canada, South America and Asia continues, as beginning to look like it is going to hurt badly.
We are waiting to see where all these leads to, if it will bring the needed development to the continent, or drag us back further. The continent needs electricity and these world powers know this, and is just unfortunate our leaders are settling for peanuts rather than ask and demand for their rights….as African leaders as usual, never asking questions for their own selfish political interest.
