Senator Shehu Sani has once again, taken a swipe at African Presidents, insinuating that they are all afraid of President Donald Trump of the United States.

The one-time Senator who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial zone at the National Assembly from 2015 to 2019, in one of his numerous tweets on his official Twitter handle on Wednesday 6th January 2021, said aside from the late Zimbabwean dictator, Mugabe, all other African Presidents are scared to speak against President Trump, especially on some of his policies as its affect Africa. He said:

“Apart from the late Mugabe, almost all African Presidents are afraid of Trump in his four-year tenure. When he’s gone, they have a lot to say,” he tweeted.

Although no indication as to what might have prompted the Senator to tweet about African Presidents in the manner that he has done, given his antecedents on the Nigerian twitter street over the years, that might be him taking a dig at an unnamed African President, possibly the one nearer home…lol.

Shehu Sani said that African Presidents have been scared to challenge or speak out against Trump during his 4-years presidency, and he has a problem with that.

A very good example which can also prove that Shehu Sani is right, was when Trump called Africa and Haiti ‘shit hoe countries’ and questioned why the United States would admit immigrants from them and other nations. And none of the so-called African President ever spoke against it or condemned the U.S President.

President Buhari even laughed about it during his visit to the State House, when the question was put to him. He had said then:

” I am very careful with what the press says about people other than myself”. he said.

I am not sure about the validity or whether that allegation against the President was true or not. So the best thing for me is to keep quiet,” he had said then.

As for the late Robert Mugabe, it is on record that the late dictator had in several occasions spoken up against Trump, and even the British Queen and other Western Leaders. While he might not have been the best President Africa had ever had, especially in the last years of his Presidency in Zimbabwe, at least, he was one of the leaders that were bold enough to speak up against the West on matters affecting Africa.

Robert Mugabe who was the founding President of Zimbabwe died in 2019 at 95, after ruling for nearly 4 decades.
