Carl Ikeme retired Super Eagles goalkeeper is to now join the Coaching crew of the National team as a goalkeeper coaching assistant with coach Rohr.
Carl Ikeme who retired from active football after suffering a leukemia will be resuming a role in the technical box of the Nigerian Super Eagles team, as a way to keep him busy and provide an alternative source of income for former Wolves goalkeeper.
While briefing newsmen ahead of the crucial AFCON 2019 qualifies against Seychelles Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr said the retired Nigeria goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme would resume his role as a member of the Super Eagles technical crew in October 2019.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) led by Mr. Pinnick Amaju already announced last month paid a visit o the now retired Super Eagles goalkeeper while he was in the hospital, where they promised not to abandon him, but would offer him a coaching education as a goalkeeper trainer and then absorb him into the technical crew of the senior national team.
Rohr has now confirmed that Ikeme is expected to arrive Lagos on October 4, for Eagles’ third match in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, against Libya on October 10. He said:
“Ikeme has been excused from next weekend’s game and will make his debut in the Eagles’ dug with Libya, for which he will land in Lagos six days before the match,”
