Breaking: Many injured as fire razes a section of Sam Mbakwe Airport

Many reportedly injured as fire razes a section of the Sam Mbakwe Airport in Imo State on Monday afternoon, as the arrival section down to the departure are engulfed in thick smoke.

The cause of the fire was not known as at the time of filing this report but a source at the Sam Mbakwe Airport said that there was a renovation work ongoing at the arrival hall, which was totally razed.

Our correspondent gathered that the inferno, which raged for about one hour, started around 2:10 pm.

It took efforts from men of the Fire service and airport workers to put off the fire.

The source said: “It was a mysterious fire outbreak. It happened at the arrival department of the airport where the authority was carrying out renovation work
“It would have caused bigger havoc but for the arrival of men of the fire service.

“It started around 2:10 pm and raged for 50 minutes. It damaged equipment and infrastructure but the rescue work assisted in salvaging the situation.”

When contacted the Police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, said that he has not been officially briefed.
