Kwankwaso was alleged to have been denied access to use the Eagle Square venue for his Presidential declaration today by authorities in charge of the place, and Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki has reacted saying the Abuja Eagle Square belongs to all Nigerians.
Senator Bukola Saraki who has been alleged to be nursing a Presidential ambition just like Senator Kwankwaso, said the move calls to question the tolerance level of the Nigerian political space. The authorities in charge of the place based their refusal on the basis that the Presidential declaration of Senator Kwankwaso falls on a working day, which is today.
Those in charge of the venue Integrated Facility Management Service Ltd, yesterday wrote to Senator Kwankwaso informing him of the development, saying:
“With reference to the approval letter dated 20th August, 2018, granting our approval for the use of Eagle Square on the 29th August, 2018, we are sorry to inform you that the event can no longer hold on the said date because it is a political event, and 29th August 2018 happens to be a work day, as it would disrupt the usual work flow of the federal secretariat.
“We apologise for the oversight on our part to note the date in relation to the nature of the event.”
This will not be the first time the Senator Kwankwanso will be going through something like this, as only a few months ago, he was asked not to visit his State Kano, by security operatives due to some alleged security threats.
Since his decamping from the ruling party of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to his old party of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator Kwankwaso has been having it tough to hold any political rally, in his State Kano, and outside his State.
Senator Saraki while reacting to the development to his social media page to condemn the act, saying:
“The refusal to allow Senator Kwankwaso’s campaign to utilize Eagle Square for his declaration, despite an earlier approval, sends a wrong message about our democracy, particularly the tolerance level in our politics. Eagle Square belongs to all Nigerians.”
