Fresh FM and Governor Abiola Ajimobi yesterday held a peace meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of Fresh FM Radio Station, Dr. Yinka Ayefele in Ibadan over the demolished Music House, where he offered to compensate the management
Governor Ajimobi and Dr. Yinka Ayefele alongside some top All Progressives Congress party members who are mediating between both parties, after a few days of a back and forth blame game as to the reasons behind the demolished Music house which was housing Fresh FM, are now looking for a possible solution to resolve their differences on a roundtable.
The Oyo state government a few days ago in court, denied any knowledge of its officials pulling down the building which was housing Fresh FM, saying the directives to demolish the building did not emanate from the Governor. But this move and comments from government officials since the demolition of the building states otherwise, and the government realizing the damage this could cause in the coming election, have now gone into damage control mode.
Governor Ajimobi while at the peace meeting, spoke about a possible compensation to both Dr. Yinka Ayefele and Fresh FM over the pulling down of the Music House, while the management and the Ministry of Physical Planning work out a way of resolving the issue, as they continue the peace meeting.
The building that was housing Fresh FM according to the Ministry of Physical planning Oyo state, contravenes the initial building plan approved by the government, and those structures not included in the initial plan had to be demolished to restore what was approved by the government. It also argued that the building was posing as a threat to motorists and the occupants of the said building, as the proximity of the building to a major road was not safe.
The Government also went further to say that contrary to what Fresh FM and Mr. Yinka have been telling the media and Nigerians, the government actually issued a notice to the management to comply with their directives, but rather than corporate with the government and effect necessary changes to the building, Fresh FM, and Yinka Ayefele opted to malign the government and the governor.
The head of Physical planning in Oyo State Mr. Waheed Gbadamosi while the case was being heard in court, said all efforts towards making Fresh FM and Yinka Ayefele to come and regularise it’s building (Music House) plan since 2017 failed. He said the ‘partial’ demolition of Fresh FM was not a witch hunt as the government already issued the same notice to some other notable institutions in the state that have violated their building plan.
Though the case is still in court, and after the outrage and condemnation that the government and governor received from the demolition, it has thought it wise to seek an amicable solution to resolve the issues surrounding what the government called ‘partial demolition’ of Fresh FM through mediation, which Fresh FM and Dr. Yinka Ayefele seems to have accepted and willing to work with the government.
The CEO of Fresh FM Dr. Yinka Ayefele and his team agreed to work with the Ministry of physical planning to work out the modalities and the approval, while the fence of the building would be moved back a few metres, creating the mandated metres from the major road. Also, while they do this, the peace meeting will continue with both parties as Governor Ajimobi promised to support the management of the station.
