NASS: Abdulmumin Jibrin admits Internal issues but no crack in APC

Abdulmumin Jibrin has admitted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus in the National House of representatives (NASS) are having internal issues, but not a crisis.

Abdulmumin Jibrin who is a member of NASS representing Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency of Kano State, in a social media post he put up a few hours ago refuted media claims that members of APC in the House of Representatives are not at peace with one another, especially with the Majority leader, Femi Gbajabiamila.

The alleged report also hinted that some APC members have already gathered signatures to sack Femi Gbajabiamila as the majority leader, as he is being alleged to be behind the move to impeach Speaker Yakubu Dogara as the Speaker of NASS.

Though Abdulmumin Jibrin has called it a mere ‘internal issues’ which are not unusual. But the report suggests that Femi Gbajabiamila who is not so much popular especially amongst the northern caucus of the APC members in the NASS, could see his position as Majority leaders vacated as members have threatened ,if he continues to move for the impeachment of Speaker Dogara and Deputy Speaker Yusuf Lasun.

The lawmaker from Lagos State has also been alleged to be working with some few other APC members and the chairman of the party Comrade Adams Oshiomole, behind closed doors without the knowledge of other majority members of the APC in the NASS. He has also been accused of insubordination towards  the leadership of the House and sidelining those perceived as the loyalist of Speaker Dogara in the APC.

Abdulmumin Jubrin while addressing the allegations took to his social media page to say:

“Against the backdrop of media reports, I wish to state that there is no crack in APC caucus of the House. We have internal issues and there is nothing unusual about it. However, these issues will be resolved internally. We have one caucus and Femi Gbajabiamila is the leader. Thank you”

Both Femi Gbajabiamila and Abdulmumin Jubrin are publicly perceived not to be good friends of Speaker Dogara, given their past encounters with the Speaker. First, it was Femi Gbajabiamila in 2015 when he was anointed as the candidate for the Speakership under the APC, but was outsmarted by Dogara with the help of Abdulmumin Jubrin and other Northern members and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members to become the Speaker.

Then came the issue of ‘budget padding’ which was allegedly brought up by Abdulmumin Jubrin, which later saw him get suspended from the House, and like they say, the rest is now history.

The defection of some members from APC to PDP and with how the Speaker has conducted himself through it, has not really gone down well with some loyalist of Femi Gbajabiamila and members from the South West and since Speaker Dogara has refused to decamp as they initially thought, he is now being accused of anti-party activities, and move are now being made to remove him as Speaker.

Also, it is also being alleged that the APC National Chairman has given the orders to members to impeach the leadership of the two chambers of the National Assembly, and while that of the Senate looks more an easy objective, that of House of Representative would be a more difficult task to accomplish.

From the look of things, Speaker Dogara has the support of members of South East, South-South, North East, North Central and North West, and few members from the South-West.
…I cannot wait for them to resume and let the drama begins!
