At least one person confirmed dead as many are reported to be trapped beneath the rubble of a building that collapsed a few hours ago in Abuja.

According to reported not less than 18 people are trapped under the rubble of the four-storey building which collapsed in the Jabi area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.

The rescue workers in the area are reported to have rescued about six persons while a corpse has been evacuated in the last hour, and rescue work ongoing as they battle to save lives even inside the heavy downpour, which his making rescue operations difficult.

It was also gathered that the dilapidated building had been abandoned for over 15 years by the owner who recently mobilised workers to continue the construction of the structure.

The Officials of the Federal Capital Territory Development Authority Abuja are all on the scene to rescue those trapped in the rubble.

This will not be the first or last time a building will collapse in Abuja or anywhere in Nigeria, as it has become an occurrence that Government and Engineering society of Nigerian are battling with.
