By-election: Speaker Dogara Congratulates Gumau and Baba-Kaita

The Speaker of House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara has congratulated the duo of Honourable Lawal Gumau and Baba-Kaita for their electoral victory in the last weekend by-elections from their respective states.

The Speaker who expressed his congratulatory message on his social media page, said he is proud of the now former members of the House of Representatives who are now leaving the green chamber to the red chamber of the National Assembly.

Lawal Gamua won the Bauchi South by-elections and Ahmed Baba-Kaita won that of  Kastina-North under the All Progressive Congress which is also the party of the Speaker.

While expressing his joy at the outcome of the elections, Speaker Dogara said:

“On behalf of the entire leadership and members of House of Representatives , I hereby congratulate Hon. Lawal Yahaya Gumau and Hon. Ahmed Baba Kaita on their election to Senate.”

“I am proud of them and know that they will continue the good job of representing the interests of their constituents in the Senate. It gladdens my heart to note that they have now joined the league of former Members of House of representatives in the Senate.”

Mr. Lawan Gumau, won the Bauchi South Senatorial District By-election, held on Saturday with a total vote of 119,489 votes to defeat eight other contestants, amongst them, the immediate past governor of the state, Mr Isa Yuguda of the Green Party of Nigeria, who polled 33,079 votes.

The by-election was conducted to elect a representative for Bauchi South Senatorial District, after the unfortunate death of Sen. Ali Wakili earlier this year.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Katsina also declared Alhaji Ahmed Baba-Kaita of the All Progressives Congress (APC ), as the winner of the bye-election conducted in the Katsina North Senatorial District.

Baba-Kaita, scored 224,607 votes, while his elder brother and a retired customs officer, Alhaji Kabir Babba Kaita of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 59,724 votes

The former House of representatives member will now also leave the green chamber to the red chamber to replace the late Senator Bukar Mustapha.

Also the house of representative will have a new member in Alhaji Haruna Isah, who was also declared the winner of the Lokoja/Kogi House of Representatives by-election held at the week and Isah polled 26, 860 votes to defeat Alhaji Bashir Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 14, 845 votes.

He will be coming in to replace the late Umar Buba Jibrin, who also died earlier this year.
