The falconets of Nigeria booked their place in the last eight of the ongoing FIFA U20 world cup in France, after playing 1-1 with China.
The game that ended a few hours ago, saw Nigeria finishing their group game with 4points from three games, after losing to Germany, beating Haiti and drawing with China.
The Nigerian girls are the only African representative to have booked their place to the next stage of the FIFA competition, after Ghana crashed out even before their last group game.
The result for Nigeria means both China and Haiti are out of the competition, with Nigeria and Germany progressing to the next stage from the group.
The falconets put out a fantastic performance against China as their fighting spirit and believe paid off as a late goal from striker Ajibade Rasheedat in the 90+4 minutes gave Nigeria the needed result, breaking the hearts of the Chinese players.
Nigeria will now play Spain in the Quarterfinals, on Thursday by 4pm.
While reacting to her late goal that gave Nigeria the ticket to the quarterfinals, Ajibade had this to say:
“In God we trust. The team believed and played until the final whistle and we got the goal, which I dedicate to my mentor Mr. Emmanuel Osahon Orobosa, to go through. Thank you for all the great support and prayers” She said.
The Nigerian girls still have a lot of work to do, if they hope to win the competition this time. Congratulations to the team…
