Sheikh Zakzaky: Two People Reportedly Dead In Shiites Protest

A Kaduna High Court on Monday asked the government to release the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat so that they can seek medical treatment in India.

This is coming after weeks of deadly protest by the Islamic Movement of Nigeria both in Kaduna and Abuja where they have marched demanding for the unconditional release of their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat. It also comes days after the President, President Muhammadu Buhari through a court, declaring the group as a terrorist organisation for their continued protest, and destruction of public property in Abuja and the alleged killing of a Police officer and a Corp member.

A good development for the Shiite group, but it is not yet clear if the government will obey this latest court order, as they fear that Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky who commands a large following both within and outside Nigeria, could probably not return if allowed to travel abroad for treatment. This could also depend on the arrangement for his travelling abroad for the treatment…The fear of an hijack from Iran? lol

Mr El-Zakzaky has been in detention since 2015 after soldiers raided the IMN headquarters in Zaria and allegedly killed at least 347 Shiites, after which the government accuses the group of not recognising the Nigerian constitution and authority. It blames Mr El-Zakzaky for the death of a soldier in December 2015.
