The Independent National Electoral Commission has given its verdict on the just concluded recalling process of the senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye. In their verdict, INEC cited the 1999 constitution and the minimum required number of verified signature to recall a member of the National Assembly, which in this case, is Senator Dino Melaye.

The Commission which gave its final verdict ruled in favour of the senator, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye, saying the total verified result of signatures from the exercise only accounted for just 5% and so does not meet the constitutional requirements of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

While giving the verdict professor Ukertor Gabriel who supervised the process said:

I Professor Ukertor Gabriel Moti, affirm that the information on verification of signatures to the petition for the recall of Senator Dino David Melaye of Kogi West Senatorial District has taken place on this day, 28th day of April 2018, and that the verified signatures is 5.34%

.. of the total number of registered voters in the constituency and has therefore not satisfied a requirement of the law for a referendum.
