The President of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has kicked started his visit to London with a visit to his friend and Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby. The Archbishop of Canterbury who was among those that paid a visit to President Buhari that last he visited London for medical treatment, is being hosted by the President in London as a sign of gratitude and show of friendship for his support during his trying times. Though there has been some insinuations that the President’s sole purpose visit to London was for medical reasons and not for the Commonwealth Heads Of States Meetings, as claimed by the Presidency.

The Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu a few days ago, had explained the President’s London visit as official and not for medical reasons, saying:

the President will also meet the Chief Executive Officer of Royal Dutch Plc, Ben van Beurden in connection with Shell and other partners’ plan to invest $15b in Nigeria’s oil industry.” These investment ventures will lay the foundation for the next 20 years production and domestic gas supply, bringing with it all the attendant benefits both to the economy and the wider society.
