Liverpool has issued a warning to fans going to the second leg game against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals at the Etihad. The club is issuing the warning after it was alleged that some fans of the club during the first leg, attacked the Manchester City Bus as it was arriving Anfield for the first leg game, in which Liverpool won 3-0. In order to avoid such an ugly incident repeating itself, Liverpool has taken to their website to place a warning such incident could cost the club if it happens again.
Liverpool will be looking to proceed to the Semi-finals of the competition after a very long absence since they last won it. The game tonight will be a very interesting one, as though despite having the goal advantage going to the second leg, Liverpool are still careful not to be carried away, as Manchester City having lost two games back to back will be looking to give their fans something to cheer tonight. The club statement reads:
Ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Manchester City at Etihad Stadium, Liverpool FC would like to remind supporters that flares, smoke bombs and pyrotechnics are illegal and prohibited
The club has been charged by UEFA for Liverpool supporters using pyrotechnics during recent matches, which will result in sanctions being imposed and could lead to ticket allocations being reduced at future games.
Any individual who is found taking these items into the stadium is liable for arrest. The use of such devices breaches ground safety regulation and poses serious risk of injury to fellow fans and serious health risks. Amnesty bins will be located outside the visiting section of the Etihad on Tuesday.
Should pyrotechnic devices be ignited during the game, this could lead to further sanctions for the club, the activation of fire alarms and the subsequent evacuation of the stadium and abandonment of the match.
