The declaration by President of Nigeria, President Muhammad Buhari that he was interested in seeking a re-election on the platform of the ruling party, the All Progressive Congress APC for the 2019 presidential election, as expected, has been generating a lot of reactions, both for against and in favour. But the one reaction that caught my attention was that of a Senator representing Kaduna Central Federal Constituency, Senator Shehu Sani.
The Senator who reacted in a remarkable fashion and in his usual ‘Animal Kingdom’ rhetorics in a way, revealed some of the tactical steps that the President might have taken to get his hands on the APC party ticket come 2019. From his revelation which most of us who are the onlookers were never privy to or better still we are too busy looking on the surfaces of the Nigerian Political happenings and comments that we forget to look beyond words to see the actual manoeuvering going on within, could mean a lot has happened underground within the public are not aware of.
Just like that, the Senator who in the last few weeks has been making references to the ‘Animal kingdom rhetorics’ while reacting to the declaration and poking fun at his State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, used the word ‘lion’ to refer to the president and how he has managed to pave the way for himself to clinch the party’s ticket. This move he said has dimed the hopes of those who have been nurturing the ambition to take over from the president should in case he refused to seek a reelection. Hmmm.
Clearly, the senator from Kaduna State could in a way also be making references to the alleged Presidental ambition of his state governor, Mallam Nadir El-Rufai who in some weeks now was rumoured to be nursing the ambition of taking over from President Buhari in case he refused to run again for the 2019 presidentail elections. But that might not be the case, as it was El rufai himself who broke the news on social media. Or was there any private discussion and agreement before now, and somebody somewhere decided not to meet on his promise? well, we wait to see.
