An American of Ghana origin, Virgil Abloh have just been named as the new Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Wear. The Paris based fashion giant made the announcement earlier today on its social media page, as the DJ turned fashion designer, and founder of ‘Off White’ replaces Kim Jones who left Louis Vuitton as Menswear Director.
The 37year old will now handle the Louis Vuitton menswear designs, after years of working in the fashion industry. One of his partners in the industry, is Mr Yeezy himself, Kanye West, and they have both churned out designs famous amongst pop culture, that Louis Vuitton is not wasting time in promoting him to the director level.
In a statement released by Michael Burke Louis Vuitton, the Chairman and CEO of the Paris based fashion outfit, said:
Having followed with great interest Virlgil’sascent since he worked with me at Fendi in 2006, I am thrilled to see how his innate creativity and disruptive approach have made him so relevany noy jusy in yhe world of fahion buy in popular culyure today.
On his part in responding to his appointment Abloh said:
It is an honorfor me to accept the position of men’s Arstictic Director for Lous Vuitton. I find the heritage and creative integrity of the HOuse are key inspirations and will look to reference them both while drawing parallels to modern times.
