Oscar award winning actress and one of world leading actresses, Lupita Nyongo published a children book. Lupital who is also an actress in Africa’s popular series Shuga, has never been known to be a writer, but the Kenya raised seems to have found a reason to tell younger Africa children a story in an African way, fighting ‘colourism’ in a very diverse world.
Given how fast the world is regressing, in terms of the reawakening of hatred towards Africans and blacks and other people from developing world, in the hands of so called developed world. It has become imperative to tell our stories ourselves, in our own way, especially when it comes to the issue of race.
Though I have not seen the book, nor has the book be released or launched, but t I feel her recent film Black Panther and her experience as black living in America, and experiences of others around her, must have influenced her choice of writing a book of this nature. The beautiful actress who has also been rumored to be interested in a Nigerian…lol…made the announcement on her page saying:
I am pleased to reveal I have written a children’s book! It’s called “Sulwe”! Sulwe is a dark skinned girl who goes on a starry-eyed adventure, and awakens with a reimagined sense of beauty. She encounters lessons that we learn as children and spend our lives unlearning. This is a story for little ones, but no matter the age I hope it serves as an inspiration for everyone to walk with joy in your own skin. Coming January 2019!!
