The National Union of Teachers Kaduna branch, has called off their strike. This is coming after just ten days of embarking on strike. The Union have threatened a showdown with the governor for sacking thousands of their members.

They have earlier asked their other remaining members to boycott classrooms in protest to the state government sacking. But to the surprise and amusement of the Governor, the Union have called off the strike, and ready for amicable way out of the situation.

The state Governor, Mallam El-Rufai who have earlier said the call by the Union to embark on strike was politically motivated, as what his administration is doing is in the interest of Kaduna people and anyone or group against it, does not have the interest of the future of Kaduna children at heart.

In his earlier message, the Governor hints on a Political backing, as some unnamed politicians are using the strike and other propaganda as a means to threaten his political career. But the Governor said, he is not perturb by that, as when the time comes (elections) the people will decide. He said:

Some of our critics have threatened us with electoral consequences because we are taking tough, but necessary decisions, in favour of ordinary people. Our oath of office and our personal principles prevent us from refusing to do what is right because of political calculations. We take decisions because they are right, not because they offer us any political advantage. We trust that residents of Kaduna State will make the best choice for themselves and their children.

Few hours later, he broke the news of NUT calling off their strike. He said:

Kaduna State wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers has called off the indefinite strike action embarked upon in all public schools and commends Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai‘s reforms on education in the state. #KadunaWillBeGreatAgain
