Russell Brand on Thursday slammed ex-wife Katy Perry’s relationship with Justin Trudeau – dubbing the ex-Canadian Prime Minister ‘a globalist stooge’ – during a Turning Point USA gathering in Phoenix.
The outspoken entertainer, Russell Brand 50, brought up his former marriage to the Firework singer, 41, from 2010-2012, while speaking to a conservative audience for the group founded by the late Charlie Kirk.
Russell Brand tied politics into the discussion of Perry’s new romance with the left-leaning pol, 53.
‘Look, Katy Perry, I was married to her,’ the Get Him to the Greek star said. ‘I love her still, and I’m glad that her mom’s in the room to hear me say this – but look.’
Russell Brand said that Perry’s relationship with Trudeau rubs him the wrong way, as he was not as put off by her past romance with actor Orlando Bloom, 48.
‘I was okay with Orlando Bloom, but Justin Trudeau?’ Brand said. ‘Come on, man! Don’t put me in a category with that guy.’
Trudeau, who served as Canada‘s prime minister from 2015 to 2025, and the Roar artist were first seen in late July dining at the Montreal restaurant Le Violon.
Perry and Bloom announced they were splitting earlier this year; they are parents to daughter Daisy, five.
Trudeau and his ex-wife Sophie Grégoire split in 2023; they are also parents to daughter Ella-Grace Margaret Trudeau, 16.
The I Kissed a Girl songstress and Trudeau went Instagram official earlier this month following months of public speculation about how serious they were as a pair.
Trudeau on December 4 reposted a picture of himself and his lady love as they took a picture with former Japanese prime minister Fumio Kishida and his wife Yuko Kishida.
Brand is wrapping up a difficult 2025, as he was charged in England with five counts of assault and rape based off accusations from four women.
Brand initially accused of sex assault more than two years ago, in September 2023, when a total of five women made allegations about his behavior in a piece worked on by multiple media outlets (The Sunday Times, The Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches).
Brand said he ‘absolutely refutes’ all of the claims made against him; he is set for trial in June of 2026.
In October, a source told People that Trudeau ‘is a much happier person now’ in the romance with Perry.
‘Stresses are greatly diminished,’ the insider said. ‘And he is intrigued with Katy. They have fun together, laugh a lot, talk about everything.’
‘His life is much improved, and his relationship with Katy has had a lot to do with it.’
The source said Trudeau ‘has had a lot of upheavals in the past couple of years, both in his professional-political status and at home with the split from Sophie.’
