Pessu Market: Warri South Council Boss To Re-Roof Burnt Shops

Warri South Local Government Council will immediately commence the process for the re-roofing of 15 lock-up shops at Pessu Market, Warri in Delta state, that were burnt Thursday, February 15.

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi, gave the assurance Friday, February 23, when he led the Secretary to Warri South Local Government, Mr. Joseph Oribioye and Supervisors of the Council, on a working tour of the Pessu market, to access the extent of damage caused by the inferno.

Dr. Tidi, whose delegation was received by the Councillor representing the area in Warri South Legislative Arm, Hon. Henry Mayuku and some of the affected traders as well as residents of Pessu Community, empathized with the victims.

He promised that apart from the planned intervention of the Council, his administration would communicate the state government, with a view to mitigating the sufferings of the affected traders.

The Warri South Local Government Chief Executive Officer, immediately directed Secretary to Warri South Local Government, Mr. Oribioye, to profile the affected traders and possibly take inventory of the losses.

One of the victims, Madam Stella Kenekueyero, told the Warri South Local Government Boss, that it was the prompt action of emergency responders within the locality, that prevented the inferno from spreading, before Men of the State Fire Service, eventually put out the blaze.

According to Madam Kenekueyero, the inferno suspected to have been triggered by a spark in electricity, started at about 10:00 pm last week Thursday.

Valuables and commodities in the affected shops, running into the yet-to-be-estimated sum, were completely burnt by the blaze.
