According to a report, at least 40 people have been rescued alive and 10 children confirmed dead in the Ita-Faji building collapsed in Lagos Island.

BBC reported that the school, which was on the top floor of the three-storey building in Ita Faji on Lagos Island, had more than 100 pupils, out of which about 40 pupils have been pulled out alive, as the search and rescue operations continue.

Emergency teams pulled several injured pupils from the rubble, but many worried parents at the scene were unable to find their children, while others went to a local hospital to look for theirs. BBC report said.

Lagos state deputy governor, Idiat Oluranti Adebule, who was at Ita-Faji pleaded with the huge crowd to make way and allow rescue workers to have access to the accident scene. She said:

“We plead for their understanding to allow the rescue team to do their work… so that the medical team can take prompt and immediate action as soon as the patients are brought in,” she said.

…more update on this still to come, as the Lagos State Emergency Agency are yet to release official statement on the collapsed building and official figures of victims…
