Anti-Open Grazing Law: Okowa Unveils 19-Man Committee

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, as part of the provisions of the Delta State anti-open grazing law which was recently enacted, on Tuesday, inaugurated a 19-man Livestock management committee.

The inauguration for the 19-man Livestock Management Committee for the anti-open grazing law was done at the Government House, Asaba on Tuesday 14th December 2021.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Julius Egbedi was appointed as the chairman of the committee by the Governor.

The Governor while speaking at the meeting on Tuesday, urged the Chairman, of the 19-Man Livestock Management Committee, Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Julius Egbedi, and members of the committee to work with the security agencies and other key stakeholders to ensure the peaceful co-existence and proper management of livestock in Delta State.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had in September 2021, signed the anti-open grazing law in the state, where he urged the Federal Government to assist interested herdsmen to establish ranches across the country.

The anti-open grazing bill was passed by the State Assembly on September 21, 2021, after it went through Public Hearings, and received support from stakeholders.
