A French man identified as Tanguy David, has revealed that he has received over 15,000 death threats and hate messages for showing his support for France’s far-right presidential contender, Eric Zemmour.
Tanguy David according to the report by a French news outlet, BFMTV was threatened for his support for Eric Zemmour who is regarded as the ‘Trump of France’ due to his far-right views which are highly controversial. And political experts have argued that he is the biggest political threat to the anti-immigration politician Marine Le Pen ahead of the country’s election next year.
Speaking on French BFMTV, Tanguy David stated that he had received 15,000 hate messages, some of which included threats.
“I took these messages to the gendarmerie, all the messages I received were seized, so the case may take time. The relevant services will do what is possible to identify all those responsible, “he had told BFMTV.
Tanguy David is now said to be under Police protection, after allegedly receiving those messages and death threats.
Tanguy David is a French national, whose ancestors migrated to France from Mali.
French voters will choose their next president in the April vote. Polls indicate that current President Emmanuel Macron will be reunited with far-right leader Marine Le Pen in the second round of the vote. However, as new players announce their candidacies, Zemmour in particular the outcome of the vote remains highly unpredictable.
At his first major Presidential campaign rally on Sunday, a man reportedly grabbed at his neck amid some clashes between his supporters and anti-racism campaigners. Zemmour has subsequently been signed off work for nine days.
Opinion polls project Zemmour getting 14% of the public vote in the first round of the French presidential vote due in April, and Marine Le Pen receiving 19%. However, there’s plenty of time for voting intentions to change in the coming months.
