Nigerians have reacted angrily towards Garba Shehu for allegedly making a joke out of Leah Sharibu’s kidnap by Boko Haram. This comes after the Presidential aide unintentionally, made the joke about the kidnapping of the schoolgirl when he was giving a reply to Pastor Reno Omokri, over their twitter debate on the security situation in the country.
Mallam Garba Shehu who is the Senior Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Personality, was called out by Reno Omokri, for allegedly saying that President Buhari has made Nigeria safer. The Presidential aide was also offered a $20,000 reward if he could spend a night in Koshobe (Borno) or Kware(in Sokoto State) to prove his claims.
In his reply, Garba Shehu questioned the source of the $20,000 offer that has been promised by the former aide to ex-President Jonathan, where he said if the money being put forward by Reno is the one he made from Leah Sharibu’s kidnap, he will not touch it. He said:
“If this is the money from the collections made in the name of Leah Sharibu, the unfortunate Christian girl stolen by Boko Haram, I won’t touch it with a long. Please keep “your USD20000” he said.
His replying saying ‘Unfortunate Christian girl stolen by Bokoram’ did not go down well with many Nigerians, as they described the tweet by Garba Shehu as insensitive, not only to the girl who is yet to be rescued but to her parents, Nigerians and the Christian world.
