Former Governor of Anambra state, and the 2019 Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi has commended President Muhammadu Buhari on his authorization for the importation of the popular Madagascar COVID-19 Syrup.

Peter Obi taking to his official social media page on Tuesday 12th May 2020, a day after the Presidential approval for the Madagascar COVID-19 Syrup, said the authorisation and the needed support for local inventions, would save Nigeria the scarce foreign exchange, and also give confidence to domestic researchers and inventions. He said:

“I firmly support the authorisation of Muhammadu Buhari for importation and subjection of the Madagascar COVID-19 Syrup to standard validation process for pharmaceuticals, and possibly for use in the cure of this virus,” he said.

Peter Obi continued by adding that:

“Similar authorisation and encouragement should be given to local inventions. This will save us scarce forex and will give confidence to domestic researchers and inventors”.

Peter Obi’s comment is coming after the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha briefed reporters that the Republic of Madagascar has offered the herbal drug which is for the prevention and cure of Coronavirus to Nigeria and other African countries.

He said the Madagascar COVID-19 Syrup, which is in a consignment has been sent to Equatorial Guinea from where it will be airlifted to Abuja. But had noted that President Muhammadu Buhari had duly instructed him to ensure that the “COVID ORGANICS” was validated before it’s used in Nigeria.

The Madagascar COVID-19 Syrup which has been criticised by some Western countries has however proven effective in the East African country with no case of death as a result of COVID-19.
