Breaking: Kano State Record First Coronavirus Death

Kano State has recorded its first coronavirus death, as the state Government confirmed the sad incident on Thursday 16th April 2020.

The first coronavirus death from Kano state, is coming just a few hours after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced that the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria has jumped to 407, with Kano state recording 12 new cases on Wednesday 15th April 2020, and 22 cases in total.

The Kano State Government which seems to be gearing up for the challenges that these increased number of cases may bring, has already concluded plans to use the General Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital as Isolation centre. But no information as to who the victim of the first coronavirus death, since a 75-year-old former Ambassador was confirmed as the index case in the state.

The Kano State government in a letter sent to the management of the Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital and dated Tuesday 14th April 2020, by the Secretary to the Kano State Government, Alhaji Usman requesting to use the facilities, said; “following the establishment of 500 beds isolation centre at Sani Abachi Stadium specifically for the patients diagnosed with coronavirus, and the fact that the centre is yet to be completed, Government deemed it necessary to utilise General Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital to serve as Isolation centre for the treatment of patients with mild symptoms of the dreaded disease,” he said.

Stating further, he said:
“The import of this communication, therefore, is to intimate you of the foregoing development and request you make immediate arrangements towards ensuring the successful take-off of the isolation centre at the hospital.

While urging you to accord this issue top-priority, please accept the assurances of my esteemed regards,” he added.

Kano State on Wednesday 15th April 2020, recorded five additional COVID-19 new cases, as the Ministry of Health announced this on its verified twitter handle on Wednesday.
It puts the number of confirmed cases in Kano to nine.

The development was also confirmed by the Kano State Government, were in a tweet from their official Twitter handle said; “Tests conducted on persons closest to the state’s index case of COVID19 have revealed 5 additional cases. We now have a total of 9 cases in the state and more testing is ongoing to box the spread of the pandemic. Please stay indoors and give us a fighting chance,” the Kano State Government had said earlier today.
