President Muhammadu Buhari aftermath of the All Progressives Congress, APC party primaries across the Nation, has come in the defense of the aggrieved members of his party who felt that they were unjustly treated in the process or rigged out of the process, saying they can go and seek redress in the court of law.
President Buhari who said this on Monday, disagreed with the position of his party (the aftermath of APC party primaries) forbidding aggrieved members from taking the party to court and threatening to penalize those who do.
In a statement released a few hours ago by the Presidency, President Muhammadu Buhari while speaking on the APC party primaries, said:
“We cannot deliberately deny people of their rights. We agreed that party primaries should be conducted either through direct, indirect or consensus methods, and if anyone feels unjustly treated in the process, such a person can go to court.”
“The court should always be the last resort for the dissatisfied. For the party to outlaw, the court process is not acceptable to me.”
The President’s statement is coming after the Comrade Adams Oshiomhole led party executive threatened to sanction members that have filed cases in court on the APC party primaries, describing the move as anti-party.
The National Working Committee (NWC) described the move by members as ‘manifest indiscipline’, as they felt that the aggrieved members did not explore the party’s dispute resolution mechanism before resulting to Court cases, which also involved allegation on bribes running into hundreds of millions of dollars.
President Buhari who is the leader of the Party, and whose inlaw (Mrs Aisha Buhari’s brother) somehow missed out in the APC party primaries and one of the aggrieved members, has advised members to work with the reconciliation committees empanelled for the six geo-political zones by the APC.
The National Peace and Reconciliation committees set up by APC to look into the crisis, will be chaired by six governors, and these are:
Abdullahi Ganduje (South East committee),
Kashim Shettima (South West committee),
Rauf Aregbesola (South-South committee),
Abiola Ajimobi (North West committee),
Ibrahim Geidam (North Central committee), and
Tanko Al-Makura (North East committee).
