Governor Dankwambo denies stepping down for Tambuwal

Port Harcourt: I am still very much in the race-Dankwambo

Governor Dankwambo of Gombe State has denied reports by some news media, that he has been spoken to alongside other Presidential aspirants to step down for Governor of Sokoto State Aminu Tambuwal who also is an aspirant for tomorrow’s convention in Rivers State.

Governor Dankwambo who is said to be one of the strongest candidates tipped to clinch the Presidential ticket of the major opposition political party in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in a swift reaction after the news broke that he was ready to ditch his Presidential ambition and support former Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives and now Governor of Sokoto State, Tambuwal, said the news is false.

The news by Sahara reporters a few hours ago, reports that Governor Dankwanbo was going to step down alongside David Mark, saying:
“The Tambuwal camp has been able to reach out to some of the aspirants,” said a source very familiar with ongoing 59th-minute-of-the-eleventh-hour meetings. “They have been able to get David Mark, Lamido, Dankwambo to step down for Tambuwal between today and at the convention ground tomorrow. For now that is the plan. They are also trying to work with Kwanwaso but he has not given them any positive response for now. They are working on Ahmed Makarfi as well.”
This the Governor refuted saying:

“False.
I’m a 2nd term governor. I have been loyal to the PDP.
This does not make any sense. They sold a dummy to you.”

Many are tipping one of Saraki, Atiku and Tambuwal to emerge as the winner of the PDP Presidential candidate tomorrow, but since the Governor whose State is hosting was alleged to have openly supported Tambuwal, it is already looking like a solo race, and all these rumour flying around are not helping matters.

It is also being alleged that Tambuwal will emerge the winner tomorrow, as the convention might follow in the way of  what happened a few months ago when the PDP elected their National Party Chairman Uche Secondus, and some aspirants are already looking to decamp.
