Michael Bolton daughters shared a positive update on his health amid his battle with glioblastoma.
The 72-year-old singer-songwriter was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer two years ago.
In a video shared on Thursday by AARP.org, his daughters Isa and Taryn opened up about his current condition — over a year after he underwent two surgeries and numerous treatments to get rid of a tumor.
Isa, 50, and Taryn, 46, have been caring for their father along with their sister Holly, 48.
‘We’re proud and happy to update anyone who has been interested in following [our dad’s] journey that he is in very good spirits and very good health,’ Isa shared.
‘He has a lot of challenges, and we do have great days and some tough days, but in general, he’s very strong. His mobility and cognition have been terrific,’ she added.
This comes after the Grammy-winning baritone broke his silence about his cancer battle earlier this year and discussed receiving his diagnosis in late 2023.
Glioblastoma is ‘a type of cancer that starts as a growth of cells in the brain or spinal cord,’ which can ‘grow quickly and can invade and destroy healthy tissue,’ according to the Mayo Clinic.
During the interview, Isa and Taryn revealed each of the sisters play a different caregiver role to share the responsibilities of taking care of and supporting their father.
Michael Bolton shares his three daughters with his ex-wife Maureen McGuire, with whom he was married from 1975 to 1990.
‘We each help to honor him in various ways,’ Isa said. ‘One of us, for instance, is very fastidious in making sure that all of the daily care, [making sure] the I’s and T’s are crossed.’
She said that another one of the sisters ‘is worrying more about companionship and his spirits and what type of mood he’s in.’
And as a family, she said they are ‘all kind of collectively working on managing various business and professional aspects that need to be taken care of day to day.’
The two sisters admitted that they do experience ‘caregiver fatigue,’ which Isa called an ‘unique experience.’
‘We do have great days, and we have some tough days,’ she said. ‘The pressure, the burden is overwhelming sometimes.’
Her sister Taryn also chimed in, adding: ‘It’s important to be good to yourself so that you can give the best care to your loved ones.’
In spite of the difficult diagnosis, the sisters shared what they are grateful for and explained how they are able to spend more time together as a family while Michael Bolton pauses working and focuses on his health.
‘We probably had more meals with him in two years than we have our entire 50 years,’ Isa admitted. ‘He’s with one of his children, or multiple children and grandchildren for all of his meals.’
He and his three daughters as well as his six grandchildren live in Westport, Connecticut, where he has called home for over 30 years.
Michael Bolton himself also shared a statement with the outlet, writing in an email that he is thankful for his daughters’ support.
‘This past year has tested me in ways I never imagined,’ he shared. ‘My daughters have been constant in a way that grounds me.’
Earlier this year, Bolton and his daughters revealed how he was experiencing ‘weird’ symptoms — such as memory loss, falling out of his seat and random headaches — which led to him seeking out professional medical care in late 2023.
Upon receiving his diagnosis in December that same year, he had to undergo emergency brain surgery to excise the brain tumor.
He underwent a second brain surgery in January 2024 due to an infection. And in October 2024, he completed multiple rounds of radiation and chemotherapy treatments.
Earlier this year, he revealed that his most recent MRI scan was clear; however, he has to continue monitoring and getting scans every two months.
Glioblastama has a recurrence rate of 90 percent, per the Glioblastoma Foundation.
His daughter Holly also previously recalled Bolton waking up singing after undergoing the first emergency brain surgery.
‘He was in recovery in the hospital room singing within minutes,’ she told People in April.
‘I remember one of the nurses [at the hospital] had no idea who he was, and she’s like, “Do you know he sings like this?”‘
Michael Bolton finished radiation and chemotherapy threatments in October 2024 but has to continue getting MRIs every two months to make sure the tumor does not return.
Earlier this year, Bolton also talked publicly about his diagnosis for the first time after his short-term memory, speech and mobility started being impacted by his treatments.
He said he ‘ain’t going down without a fight’ as he remains optimistic.
‘You’re reaching into your resources and your resolve in a way that you never would have thought,’ he told the outlet.
‘Succumbing to the challenge is not an option. You’re really quickly drawn into a duel. I guess that’s the way you find out what you’re made of.’
